Seal of Changes | Tinkering Bell #7

The Seal of Changes is a template for crafting 64 talismanic sigils that harness the 64 powers encoded into the I Ching: Book of Changes. In this practicum video, I’ll share with you my favorite one: the Seal for Raising an Army based on Hexagram 7.

This work is dedicated to the public domain.

If you want to fully understand how to operate the Seal of Changes for controlling the 64 powers from the I Ching, then you’ll first need to understand the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching and some of their metaphysical and occult correspondences. A great place to attain a solid foundation to that regard is my “I Ching and Practitioner” course, which you can find and order below.

Course Description

But don’t worry, you aren’t required to take the $45 online course to use the Seal of Changes. This practicum video is intended to teach you how to master use of one of those sixty-four Seals, the Seal of Changes for Raising an Army, which is my favorite one anyway. In my opinion, it’s also versatile and multi-purpose enough that it’s a safe bet you’ll want to learn this particular Seal and integrate it into your personal occult toolkit.

The video instructional will explain how to craft and work with the sigil, and its purposes. Here is the zip file download for the image file template:

The Seal of Changes can also be used to collate all of your disparate energies and focus it through the color of one of the eight trigram powers from the Ba Gua. I didn’t get into this in the video, so I’ll get into it here. The eight trigrams are like the Eastern version of the Western alchemical four elements. In the same manner you might spell-craft in a concentrated way around the element Earth in Western magic to manifest wealth, financial gains, resource abundance, stability, security, etc., you might spell-craft in a concentrated way around the trigram Wind in Eastern magic to manifest the same.

The following supplemental handout provides bonus reference material on the eight trigrams and their metaphysical correspondences. Some of it is easy to understand even for one who has no background in Taoist magic or the I Ching. Others parts of the reference material are going to be targeted more for the advanced practitioner. Just work with what makes sense to you from the download.

For one example of how the blank template of the Seal of Changes might be used to channel energies through one of the eight trigrams, specifically one for manifesting wealth, financial gains, resource abundance, stability, and security, use the oracle bone script for Wind as the center glyph in the Seal and then proceed with the spell-crafting as instructed for the Raising an Army Seal. Same methodology.

One of my personal favorite uses for the Raising an Army Seal is to draw it, craft it as a sticker, or affix it in some way to the front interior cover page of a blank journal that I’m using (see above), where that blank journal is going to be used for one defined and specific purpose (examples: a journal where you’re logging personal nutrition, or a brainstorm journal for a project you hope to complete and launch, or a book of mirrors, etc.).

After watching the video tutorial in full, you’ll totally get why. Right? Isn’t it such a perfect idea and powerful way to use the sigil?

Simple, effective, impactful: this is going to be your go-to get-shit-done sigil. I hope you’ll give this one a try.

More Involved Uses of the Raising an Army Seal

The way I’ve instructed use of the Raising an Army Seal is multi-purpose and one pretty much anyone can use, irrespective of experience.

However, it’s probably worth mentioning that it’s also used in spirit summonings, where you can operate the Seal in such a way as to summon a legion of spirit entities that are to work collaboratively and in unity toward achieving a particular goal for the magus, or to ensure a particular conquest. In such instances of craft, more “ceremonial pomp and circumstance” (as I glibly put it in the video) would be utilized.

Granted to the Public Domain (Dedication)

I’ve granted, or dedicated, my design and work of the Seal of Changes and the specific Seal of Changes for Raising an Army sigils to the public domain. You are free to use as-is, modified, and to make derivatives for personal or commercial uses. You are free and welcome to monetize your own creations based off the Seal of Changes. No credit back to me is required, though for sure appreciated. That being said, you cannot then claim copyright over the design and work. This seal and right to create derivatives must and should remain in the public domain free for all.

Homework: Your Practicum

Following each installment of the series will be a suggested practicum, or homework, for you to try out. Homework material presumes that you are an occult practitioner who is working on developing your craft.

Seal of Changes for Raising an Army: Download the zip file folder for the Seal of Changes for Raising an Army. Following the instructions in the video, craft the Seal programmed with one of your specific intentions, an intention where the act of overcoming or the act of conquest, where battle can be a metaphor, is relevant. Document your personal impressions and any changes you intuit in your life after the crafting of the Seal. If you find the Seal to have been of use to you, create a page or page spread in your grimoire memorializing the Seal of Changes for Raising an Army.

Seal of Changes for Elemental Uses: Review the downloadable PDF Reference for the Eight Trigrams. Select one of the eight trigrams, or elements, that represents an energy you would like to cultivate more of in your life and personal environment. Consider this: if all your scattered or extraneous energies could be alchemically modified to become a pure form of this particular element, then you would be able to have greater access to the resources and benefits exemplified by that particular element. That’s how you should think about the craft and how to go about selecting the right element, or trigram. Then use the blank template for the Seal of Changes. Render the oracle bone script (also referred to as seal script) for your selected trigram into the center diamond of the Seal template. (You’ll note that as an example, use of the Seal with the Wind trigram is provided above.)

Which Way is the Seal Spinning?

And just for fun. Check out the above video. Gaze intently at the spinning Seal. First, which direction is it spinning? Now, can you make it spin the other way? Yes, of course you can.

Isn’t that neat? I think it’s so nifty how this animation worked out. You can gaze at it and with your mind, make it spin clockwise or counter-clockwise. You can also control the direction you perceive the inner circle of glyphs to be spinning.

The exercise is a fun reminder on perception and control.

Hi Benebell, where can I get more information about the Seal of Changes? What is it’s history and usage throughout the tradition, etc. Does this go back to ancient China? Thank you for all that you do!
