Book Review: The Power of Tarot by Liz Worth

The Power of Tarot: To Know Tarot, Read Tarot, and Live Tarot by Liz Worth is an intermediate guide that facilitates mastery of the cards. If you’ve been studying the cards and you know your card meanings, can work with a spread or two, but have hit a plateau both in terms of your readings and your personal spirituality, then this book is for you.

Worth is the author of Going Beyond the Little White Book: A Contemporary Guide to Tarot, which I’ve reviewed before here, though The Power of Tarot is her seventh book publication. Not only is she a prolific author, but she’s also a poet and performance artist. The tarot is an integral part of her life’s work, alongside astrology, and she’s been a long-time professional tarot reader and astrologer. The Power of Tarot distills her many years of experience, insight, and learned wisdom.

The text is subdivided into three parts. The first is about belief– To Know Tarot. How does the tarot work? Is it all fate or free will? What exactly is psychic ability anyway? Is there such a thing as collective karma? What does it mean when intuition is “wrong”?

Tarot Card Meanings with Benebell: Video Series

Tarot Card Meanings with Benebell is going to be an educational video series covering the 78 keys or cards of the tarot, showcasing the distinct attributions for four different deck systems: the TdM, the RWS, the Thoth, and my own deck, the SKT.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Here are my objectives for the course:

(1) Facilitate familiarity of the TdM, RWS, Thoth, and SKT so you become proficient at reading any and all of the four systems,

(2) Offer a card by card primer designed to help memory retention of the key meanings in a more visually engaging way than studying them out of a book, and

(3) Supplement your course work with Holistic Tarot (North Atlantic Books, 2015).

Reading the Akashic Records with the Tarot

PLEASE NOTE: The following content only represents the downloadable handouts from an in-person live master class presented at the 2019 Masters of the Tarot Conference at the Omega Institute. No online equivalent to that master class is included here, and what’s accessible is just those supplemental handouts and a copy of the PowerPoint.

What are the Akashic Records? Are there special requisites before gaining access? What are its origins?

My presentation at the 2019 Masters of the Tarot Conference will be an exploration of the origins of the Akasha from an Eastern perspective.

From there, let’s consider how tarot is a microcosm symbolic of the Akashic macrocosm.

How to Self-Publish Your Tarot or Oracle Deck

$40

For what is a rough average cost of buying a tarot or oracle deck, you will get a comprehensive course pack, including a 245-page handbook and a fully customizable deck creator’s journal that will help you every step of the way through designing, printing, marketing, and selling your own tarot or oracle deck. You’ll be getting industry trade secrets that I haven’t seen shared anywhere else.

The objective of this course is not to tell you what to do. The objective is to first ask, what do you want to do and what is your plan? Okay, now that we’ve established that, let me share with you my insights on how you can make sure you achieve what you want to do, you can sell that idea and people will want to buy it, and how to fine-tune that plan of yours so you ensure your success.

Is there a formula for success? Yes, yes there is.

And step by step, variable by variable, I will take you through that formula. Run your own fact pattern into that formula and you will produce the best possible outcome for yourself. I’m going to share with you how you can maximize the marketability of your creative project.

No matter what your deck project is, we’ll nudge it farther along to bring you more marketing power, more sales, more visibility, and to make your project the best version it can possibly be.

When You’re Feeling Lost: The Compass Spread

Surprise. I know I said here in this video that there would be no Sightsee the Tarot episodes over the summer. However, everybody makes exceptions for The Tarot Lady, amiright? I’m so excited about this newly released book, Tarot for Troubled Times (Weiser Books, July 2019) by Shaheen Miro and The Tarot Lady herself, Theresa Reed. So I just had to set aside everything else, make time, and share with you my impressions of the book.

This installment of Sightsee the Tarot walks us through The Compass Spread and then offers some insights into post-reading candle magic, per the guidance and tips you’ll find in this book.

When you’re feeling adrift, like you’re just floating along with no sense of direction, use the Compass Spread by Miro and Reed to chart a steady course.

In this companion post, I want to showcase the book.

VIDEO ORIENTATION COURSE SERIES

Series I (2018) was created for the First Edition black and white SKT deck, so when card images are featured, only the First Edition black and white will be shown. However, the substance of the information discussed applies to both the First Edition and the Vitruvian Edition decks.

Click on banner for the Series II (2019) course page.

Series II (2019) features both the First Edition and the Vitruvian Edition decks and is designed with both deck users in mind. Series I is more theoretical and when I created it, I assumed I was addressing an established, experienced practitioner, so the main purpose was to present my point of view to a fellow colleague. Series II is still far from being practical, but this time, I tried to account for someone who might not have attained years of metaphysical study and practice yet, so my hope is Series II will be more accessible.

White Sage Tarot by Theresa Hutch

The White Sage Tarot by Theresa Hutch and published in late 2018 by U.S. Games is a charming and whimsical little pocket-size deck in a tin in soft pastel hues. It doesn’t feature any humans and instead, focuses on the animal kingdom, though there are references to man-made objects as you’ll see.

The deck description provided by the publisher notes that the intention for White Sage Tarot is to be a balance of masculine and feminine energies. However, it still felt more feminine to me.

You get these quick-reference chakra correspondence cards because understanding the chakra correspondences will factor in to how you read with these cards. There’s also a little white booklet with card meanings that help you to read with this deck that otherwise diverges from traditional tarot imagery.

The cards follow the RWS order of keys in the Majors and rely on animals as omens. While upon first impression the deck may not seem beginner-friendly, there’s a way to get really beautiful and powerful readings with the White Sage Tarot, though I’m probably a bit of a maverick here…

…I totally sidestep traditional tarot reading techniques. I don’t even treat this deck as a tarot deck (even though it is, and totally follows the classical tarot structure).

A Daily Mindful Tarot Practice

Mindful Tarot: Bring a Peace-Filled, Compassionate Practice to the 78 Cards by Dr. Lisa Freinkel Tishman blends the principles of Zen Buddhist practice with the tarot. Tishman is an extensively published and celebrated poetry scholar, Zen Buddhist minister, certified mindfulness educator, and former humanities professor and dean at the University of Oregon (UO). She is also the founding director of UO’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program.
