Tarot and Astrology: The Pursuit of Destiny by Muriel Bruce Hasbrouck was first published in 1941. We’ll be working with the astrological correspondences for the cards as covered in the text. Since a copy of the book can be difficult to source, a great alternative reference source is Tarot Correspondences by T. Susan Chang. Links to both books are provided below.
In this episode of Sightsee the Tarot, we’ll be journaling through the tarot keys corresponding with our date of birth. Through analysis and self-reflection prompted by these cards, we’ll be answering six questions for ourselves:
- What are the main attributes of your personality?
- What are your natural strengths?
- What are your natural weaknesses?
- What is your one major character flaw?
- What gifts, talents, or skills do you have to contribute to the world?
- What is your life purpose?
There are two supplemental handouts you’ll want to download and have on hand while you watch the video. The first is the “Six Journaling Prompts” worksheet and the second is “The Tarot Keys to Your Birthday” reference tables. There are three (3) versions: one keyed to the RWS tarot, one to the Thoth, and one to my SKT deck. Download the version corresponding with the deck system you’re using. If you’re using a TdM deck, then I recommend working off the Thoth reference guide.
We’ll reference five tarot cards selected per our date of birth:
- Major Arcanum per your astrological sun sign
- Major Arcanum per your planetary ruler (either the planetary ruler of your sun sign or your birth chart ruler)
- Minor Arcanum for the decan ruler over your date of birth
- Your court card significator
- The Ace card corresponding with your elemental dominance
Download the below PDF for the guided tarot journaling prompts. You can either print the handout and work directly off the printed handout while watching the workshop video or you can copy the questions into your tarot notebook.

You may also want to download the below reference handout keyed to Tarot and Astrology: The Pursuit of Destiny (1941) by Muriel Bruce Hasbrouck. Use these reference tables to select the tarot cards per your date of birth.
The first version is keyed to the common names for the cards (i.e., from the RWS). The second is keyed to the Thoth, and the third PDF download is keyed to my deck, the Spirit Keeper’s Tarot. The SKT version gets into alchemical stages and includes a few additional reference charts not found in the first version.

Note for those working with the Spirit Keeper’s Tarot deck:
When the planetary ruler is Uranus (i.e., you’re opting to work with modern rulerships), then Key 0 is the corresponding tarot card.

However, in SKT, there are 3 versions of Key 0 provided. Here’s how you select which version of Key 0 to work with:
- Age 29 years or younger, before your First Saturn Return, work with Key 0: The Initiate
- Beyond your First Saturn Return but have not yet hit your Second Saturn Return, approximately between the ages of 30 and 60, then work with Key 0: The Seeker
- If you’re beyond the Second Saturn Return or even the Third, that’s age 60 and above, then work with Key 0: The Keeper
The efficacy of any work you do, esoteric and mystical or mundane, hinges on the rudimentary inquiry of how well do you know yourself. This journaling exercise that walks you through six self-reflection prompts based on tarot and astrology can help you to fine-tune your self-analysis. I hope this guided session will be as insightful to you as it was for me. =)

Hey Benebell, I just happened to have this book in my library and finally had a look at it with new eyes. Thank you. One question though: how are you weighing the planetary strengths to determine the Ace Significator? Do the Sun, Moon, Ascendant or M.C. have extra weight or should all planets and those two angles be given the same measurement?

I love this however, I’m having trouble finding the handouts that go along with the video 😦

Can it be that you have swapped earth and water signs in the final table (Elemental Dominances) of the handouts? In the text, the example given cites Scorpio as a water sign but in the table it is under earth signs.
