My 20-year-old Rider Tarot is my go-to reading deck. Since I’m often mobile and now doing tarot readings online, which I can do from my portable tablet from, well, anywhere, I found that I needed to get a tarot deck that was equally portable. I found it. The Rider Tarot Deck Miniature Edition. I love it!
Cute, though it does bother me to have The Magician on the big version and The High Priestess on the mini. Not very feminist. But moving on. The above photo offers a size comparison.
The original box is 2.9″ x 4.75″ x 1.2″. The mini box is 1.9″ x 3.0″ x 1.2″. Heck, I can toss the mini into my clutch!
As the above photo shows, there is minimal compromise on the quality and detailing. The mini also renders those large tarot spreads much easier to handle. Trying to lay out 36 regular size tarot cards is quite the feat, but not so much now with the mini. The mini is great for travel and I love that I can take it anywhere now and perform readings for people anywhere anytime. With the regular size tarot, I would need to think about having to take my deck out with me. The mini, on the other can, can remain a permanent piece in my handbag.
My only issue with the mini right now is shuffling. That’s just because I’ve been shuffling regular size tarot decks for 15 years and now I’m trying to adapt the hand movements I’m accustomed to making to a smaller deck. I experienced a similar problem when first handling some Lenormands. However, the mini is much easier to fan out than the regular, so as a result, when I read for others, I’ve readjusted my methodology for the mini.
If you’re on the RWS system and you’re looking for a cute deck to throw in your purse and have wherever you go, get the Rider Tarot Mini. It’s perfect for just that purpose.
