Building Your Identity Capital: Personal Spirituality Edition

In an executive leadership workshop I attended, I learned about identity capital and how people leaders need to help their teams cultivate identity capital. It’s a concept popularized in The Defining Decade by Meg Jay, which in short summary is the collection of professional and personal assets that define why you’re great. This is subdivided into four categories: (1) skills and credentials, (2) social networks, (3) life experiences, and (4) personal qualities.

Identity capital is what sets you apart in your marketplace or industry. It attracts more opportunities, builds your credibility, and empowers you to be more persuasive. Even when headhunters don’t consciously realize it, they’re looking for candidates with identity capital in abundance. Those who stand out in competitive environments are the ones who are rich with these assets.

I found the workshop useful, so I want to share what I learned. And of course I thought, how fun would it be to combine those professional development learnings with divination as a tool for self-reflection.

Below is a free downloadable Identity Capital Workbook.

The workbook combines your typical corporate-friendly journaling and self-assessment prompts with astrology, tarot, and even an I Ching divination prompt. You cross-reference your astrological birth chart to identify skills, credentials, social networks, personal qualities, etc. Also, there are tarot reading spreads to supplement the journaling prompts to integrate an intuitive deep-dive. The final section for identifying connections and gaps between the four categories, there’s a prompt for a big picture I Ching reading.

The journaling prompts are beginner-friendly, but the astrology and tarot prompts probably require at least an intermediate level of proficiency with the systems.

If you want to print it out so you can actually work through it, then download and print the PDF.

If you want to re-purpose any of the content to create your own workbook or anything at all, then it’s probably easier to cut and paste from the DOCX file.

The content within the Identity Capital Workbook is free for you to use, share, adapt, and build upon in any way that serves you or those you serve. I wholeheartedly invite you to integrate this content into your personal practice, educational or coaching materials that you produce, workshops, or any other endeavors. Whether you distribute the PDF or DOCX as-is, remix it into your own teachings, or translate it into other languages, my goal is for this knowledge to reach those who will benefit from it.

Please allow me to ask just this.. how compatible is the concept of building a personal identity ( Kit?) with true inner knowledge which is exactly the abandonment of a created identity? As Mr Shakespeare use to say…

to be your true self is a problem for others..

not to be your true self is a problem for you…

I suppose you could dig into the etymology here. Compatible — “capable of coexisting in harmony, reconcilable,” com “with, together” + pati “to suffer.” Maybe shrug and shake your head and say yeah it’s irreconcilable, but at least if you have a group of people acknowledging this, you can be co-sufferers sometimes experiencing this as truth and sometimes as “hey, I want my truth back.” Obviously, I haven’t looked into the details provided on this site, but let me play with words and rearrange them so that you can read “Your true self is to be a problem for others” 😀

the mathematical arrangements that we call words are a true map to under-stand subjects that appear evident (but not always) in it’s pointing direction.. let’s take humorously the word Be-Lieve..this is what I meant by saying when one is.. (himself or true self or one without any personal decoration) may be a problem to others..he or she do not lieve their Be..

compatibility in some cases can be a tricky condition..it’s not the real thing but it fits as far as it goes ..if it’s a battery it might work for sometime..but here is the question..human suffering in general is based exactly on the non compatibility with the presented reality.. this is why we should investigate why we started to explain what cannot be explained in words, written texts and seminars of intellect?

exactly what gets easily deviated on a sea current of knowledge,is a paper boat mind if not already drowned from the start.. arrangements of words are made to self destruct in front of real activity ..an interesting example..in most ancient languages the word ‘I’ is denied or it’s in a form of a negative presence… In Sanskrit the word representing I is A-Ham or no I in Aramaic is the same E-NohNo etc it was clear that our ancient ancestry knew that to reinforce or fill the self with the concept of I was not a good thing to use in our enormous field of existence.. can we really learn something practical in a seminar of spiritual swimming without having ever tried to swim in our inner selfs? that is the question… perhaps it’s because the drowning water that enters in to our mouths and fill our minds to death tastes sweet…

With how many words can I fill this box? Let’s see… Eleven. Thirteenth. Ok, so far I’m still breathing and I still have a phone ☎. And radio. 📻
I can even continue beyond the borders of the box. However, a cautionary feeling wants to make itself noticed. Fine, I’ll try and describe things without my presence.

A sauna upon hard, rocky cliffs by the sea beside a forest. The outside of the sauna has a wooden veranda with a path made of wooden boards, leading to the sea.

Some time later. Waves appeared. The clouds thickened, and gathering above the sauna, they made a candle lit oil lamp situated on a table in the sauna, appear to shine even brighter than moments before. The air was cooling, and the wavy sea looked inviting and refreshing.
