This is a photo walk-through of the KLD Tarot by Kate La Dez Studios. It’s a modern photo collage deck that features a candy pink and midnight violet-blue color contrast that recurs throughout the cards.

It’s the 78-card RWS-based tarot with 2 bonus cards. Each scene takes place in a dreamscape, with the pink and violet-blue clouds representing the divine feminine and masculine aspects within each of us.

The deck is edged in this metallic sapphire blue and if you love high production value, you’re going to love this deck — matte finish on 400 gsm art paper in sleek, chic packaging.

I love that Kali is featured on the Priestess card, which departs from what you more often see– Kali associated with The Tower. The way the design features come together, like the human anatomy figure and an Egyptian obelisk in The Emperor, or the neon illuminated portal in one of the bonus cards, “What Can Be” spark your creative and intuitive juices.

There’s a melodic skate punk, SKA, pop rock vibe to the KLD Tarot. These collaged images are like an homage to 80s and 90s subculture — dynamic and high energy with funky tongue-in-cheek humor.

There are innovative takes on the card compositions, such as the Five of Wands with five spoons of different spices being mixed in a cooking pot, or the Ten of Wands featuring an X-ray scan of human lungs and ten cigarettes.

I would imagine the deck to resonate strongly with your inner rebellious streak. Ancient and contemporary collide in a fun, fresh way.

I’m particularly drawn to this take of the Page of Wands– lighter in the foreground, typewriter, paper reading “Note to Self: Set the world ablaze– fire, meet gasoline” and the gasoline nozzle up top.

Really loving that Two of Swords image, and instead of swords, the Three of Swords features three guns pointed at a heart. Collage art as a medium is often about exploring identity and memory, which is why they are often evocative of dreamscapes and described as dreamscapes. To me, the KLD Tarot showcases the identity and memory of a femme skatecore Gen X-er.

That Seven of Swords with the cat burglar is adorbs! Or the ten two-pronged forks stabbed into a beef roast. Check out that post-it note taped to the front of the dictionary in the Page of Swords — “Pen mightier than sword. Blah Blah Blah.” The deck is cheeky, and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The eight bills hanging from a clothes line for the Eight of Pentacles with a jar labeled “Focus” on the sink and all around watching how the artist deconstructs the classical meanings of each card and then re-assembles it with iconography that feels presciently relevant to our era.
