I hope you will find the book to be a timeless go-to reference source for all your tarot needs, but I also know that the sheer size of it can be intimidating.
So. I’ve created study guides and supplements for free download that will help you navigate the book and learn tarot. These study guides and supplements contain additional exercises and information that dovetail on the contents of the book.
The guides are subdivided into sessions with suggested reading, practice work, ruminations, and supplemental downloads that will help you learn tarot on your own and at your own pace. They will help you navigate the book, whether you’re reading at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced level.
If you’re just starting out, I recommend following the Study Guide for the Beginner Tarot Student, a syllabus for learning tarot on your own with the Holistic Tarot text.
You are a Beginner if…
- you are not sure exactly how many cards are in a standard tarot deck;
- some of the imagery on the Rider-Waite-Smith deck seem a bit intimidating to you;
- you’re kind of wondering what all this Rider-Waite-Smith tradition talk is all about;
- when I say “tarot journal,” you draw a blank;
- you are not familiar with the Celtic Cross; and
- you find it incredulous that anyone in this world could know from memory the meanings to all those cards.

Oops that wasn’t meant to post yet.
I wanted to say, you aren’t kidding about the size and potential intimidation! I was surprised at the thickness of the volume. This is now my biggest tarot book. The “big yellow brick” by Zalewski is now number 2 at around 640 pages.
My cat approves, she is examining it as I type. 🙂
Again, congrats, just thumbing through it looks like something that took much perseverance and dedication to complete. I rarely preorder but this promised to be different than most tarot books nowadays, and that seems to be true at a glance.

Oh!! What are your thoughts on the Zalewski text? I haven’t read it and don’t own it, but after a quick search and poking around, it looks fascinating!

Do we HAVE to study only RW cards?? I think they r too old and would rather use my own first choosen deck. Maybe im just not traditional, even so i would love to get your book one day and go thro your study guide.

Oh my, of course not! What is your first chosen deck? You can effectively use these study guides and supplements with any tarot deck at all. However, since I’m using the RWS, I thought it would just be easier to follow along *with* the RWS or at least an RWS-based tarot deck. There are plenty of contemporary decks with artwork that will probably resonate more with you that follow the RWS tradition. You can certainly use one of those decks!

Benebell. I would love to congradulate you on your book. I’am an experienced tarot reader. Going on 15 years reading the tarot and have never found a more descriptive or dedicated book to the tarot as yours. I know that your book would have helped me so much growing up and save me a lot of money. Lol. Although I am experienced.. your book still assists me. I’am also teaching a tarot course and it helps me so much with my students. Once again congradulations on your success and although it may be a challenge.. I sincerely hope that you will write another book. I am also highly recomending this book to my students and easing them into it. As you said. Can seem quite intimidating for the novice beginner. Lol

Im learning so much, and feel like Im a little more than beginner, but not yet proficient.
To be honest like a lot of newbies I think my confidence is lacking, and I worry that Im reading wrong.
As Ive wandered along my learnig path Ive discovered that Im more of an intuitive reader, and while I LOVE the Rider Waite system, the traditional cards just dont speak to me. I only started feeling connected when I purchased an alternative deck, based on RW. 😊
So, again thank you, and I’m definitely checking these out.
Id love any advice on decks I could try as an alternarive to the classic Rider Waite, if you have the time.
